It’s never over until you cross that finish line. ~ Shalane Flanagan
It was during mile 2 that this quote popped into my head. In that moment I had quickly looked at my watch for a pace check. My pace was a little off. Thinking of this quote reminded me to keep pushing.
From the time the guy at the starting line said Go, Go, Go, I took off and didn’t hold back. Pumping my arms, my legs turning over quickly. Breathing. Focused. Smiling. When I had those moments of feeling like my mind wanted me to slow down, I asked myself if I could give a little more.
I ran. I pushed. I gave more. And then I saw the finish line and gave some more. I crossed that line and had that I could totally throw up right now feeling of giving it everything. And today it was 14 seconds off my PR.
Am I disappointed. No. I did have a moment when John and I were walking back to the car. I turned to him and said, “I’m just going to cry for a second and then I’m done.” Then I thought, why am I crying. I gave it everything. I didn’t hold back. I had nothing left to give. I had no what ifs.
My stats from the race: Time 23:54, ave pace 7:41.6/mile, 4th in my age group out of 80, 88th female out of 934 and 357th out of 1,765 total runners. My second 5K under 24 mins. 4th in my age group, I’ll take it.
Plus I got to warm up and run with my Oiselle bird sisters!
And twin with @caitcampbell!
And running another 5K with my hubby John is the best way I can think of to spend the morning.
And of course, Venti decaf!
I’m not giving up on my PR, I’ll get there. But now it’s time to start training for my 50K. Let the fun begin.
