Winter and I are old friends. I grew up outside Cleveland, Ohio and experienced many a lake-effect snow storm and had many a birthday slumber party cancelled as a kid. I’m a January birthday. Over the last 26 years I’ve gotten to know quite well what a Nor’easter is by living in the Boston area of New England. We have had super cold years, heavy snow years and a time of wearing shorts to run on Christmas.
Over the last couple of years I have found myself resisting the winter. I’m not sure why since it’s not like I moved to a warmer climate. I have trained in all kinds of winter weather and know how to run in this cold winter climate. Maybe I’m sick of it. All I know is resisting what is, is not the answer. It’s not like I am going to stop running and/or training.
So this year I decided or should I say I chose to Embrace the Winter. And I wanted to bring you with me. If you:
- hibernate once the temp first goes under 30,
- only do your training indoors once it’s dark and cold,
- wish there was another way,
- have forgotten how fun winter was,
